One sunny winter's day about seven years ago my face flared up bright red without any seeming reason. My cheeks looked like they had severe sunburn, and it was as painful as if I had. After a day or two I realized it wasn't sunburn and I began searching online for my symptoms. I realized I had Rosacea.
A trip to my doctor landed me with a prescription for Metronidazole, an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial cream, and instructions to adjust my diet to remove inflammatory foods such as coffee, spicy foods, chocolate, alcohol. I realized that sun and smoke were two surface irritants that could bring on a flare up as well so I avoided them.
After using Metronidazole for a few months I could feel my symptoms getting better but they did not disappear all together. I began investigating Metronidazole and realized it is known as a potential carcinogen, as well as causing possible side effects of dizziness, nausea, vomiting, headaches and many others. I made every effort to stick closely to an anti-inflammatory diet and not use the medication unless I really needed it.
A year after my diagnosis I was taking a course to become a Master Gardener and in one of the classes they were discussing organic anti-fungal remedies for roses. Neem Oil Soap came up as the accepted remedy. I immediately thought of using the soap on my face and went to the local health supplement store to see if I could track it down. Sure enough, they had neem soap and neem face cream and also a supplement to take which attacks fungus and bacterial throughout your body. I bought a full set of products and began taking them right away. Within the week my Rosacea symptoms had completely disappeared.
Neem was significantly more effective in the treatment of my Rosacea. With the added benefit of having absolutely no known side effects. I still use the face cream, but not the soap or supplements. I eat anything I want and drink several cups of coffee a day. I can be around a campfire and sit in the sun without any symptoms. Today no one would have any idea at all that I have Rosacea.
Why isn’t Neem prescribed for the treatment of Rosacea? And why is a potential known carcinogen being prescribed in its place? Not only is Neem less expensive and more effective, it is also beneficial for the overall health of person who is taking it.
If you know someone with Rosacea be sure to pass this information along.
